The Indian Premier League(IPL) is on to its 11th Season. What’s more special is that the league’s favourite team, Chennai Super Kings and former champions Rajasthan Royals are back in the scheme of things after a 2-year ban. Every season springs out new surprises and this time too, there were a lot of them. The Cricbuk team, decided to rank the teams based on the players they retained and place valuable suggestions as to who can be drafted into the side during the auction using RTM(Right-to-Match).

NOTE: The rankings are dependent on the players current form and their contributions to the team’s success.

Finalists in the 2014 edition, Kings XI lost their way in the next 3 seasons, finishing in the bottom half of the table. They changed the captains frequently and it just affected their morale. Many would have expected David Miller to be retained but the retention of Axar raised the eyebrows of their fans.

Hope they get Miller, Maxwell and Vohra in the RTM as they can be destructive on their day.

Many of them expected Ajinkya Rahane and Steven Smith to be retained but it’s another surprise that they decided to retain only Smith considering their recent form. Lack of a proper all-rounder can affect their chances of winning IPL. They also lack the bite in their bowling.

Hope they pick good youngsters and experienced campaigners in RTM to keep their hopes alive.

6.DELHI DAREDEVILS- Shreyas Iyer, Chris Morris, Rishabh Pant:

Delhi is a team which looks upto producing fresh young talents and it comes as no surprise that they retained Shreyas and Pant. In Morris, they have a balanced all-rounder who can be ruthless on his day. Lack of a solid 1 drop batsman has affected their chances but this time around,DD will look to turn the tables around.

DD can pick Gambhir in the RTM as he lends the solidity and some exciting talents in the RTM.

5.KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS-Sunil Narine,Andre Russell:

This retention, however was the most shocking of the lot. Chris Lynn, whom many expected to be retained, was left in the auction and the decision to retain two all rounders was a huge surprise. Lack of a solid opening pair has caused worries for KKR.

Hope they pick good players who can lend solidity in the opening.

4.ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE-Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Sarfraz Khan:

Runners up in 2016 edition, they lost their way completely in the previous season owing to the absence of a good all rounder. The decision to retain Virat and AB was not surprising but Sarfraz came as a huge surprise. It is indeed a proud moment for the youngster who has a long way to go in his future. Lack of a solid all rounder have affected them for the 10 seasons.

They must pick an all rounder in the RTM to boost their prospects of winning this time.

3.SUNRISERS HYDERABAD-David Warner, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar:

The champions in 2016, they qualified for play offs in 2017 but lost to KKR in the eliminator. Their retentions are not surprising as they both can single handedly turn the matches in a span of time. However, lack of a proper opening pair and a weak middle order have been their Achilles heel in the business end of the tournament.

Hope they get some good players who can lend both solidity and counter attack at the same time.

2.CHENNAI SUPER KINGS-MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja:

The league’s favourite team and two time champions, CSK’s decision to retain these 3 has been a masterstroke. However, the management faced criticism for not retaining a bowler of Ashwin’s caliber, who can turn a game on its head. Raina’s recent run of form is not so convincing as one would say, but he would like to turn his fortunes in this season.

Picking up good all rounders and batsman can increase its prospects in winning the crown.

1.MUMBAI INDIANS-Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah:

The defending champions, Mumbai Indians’ prospects of retaining the crown holds a lot of possibility, as they have retained players willing to express themselves. The trio are in smashing form ahead of IPL and they would love to be in form atleast till IPL.The only concern is the No-balls of Bumrah, which can be rectified if he practices a lot.

Picking youngsters like Krunal and good bowlers can boost its chances of retaining the crown.
